CHAPTER THIRTEEN

OLIVIA

Olivia fluttered her eyes open as soon as the morning light streamed through her bedroom window. She had no idea what time she’d fallen asleep or what time it was now. All she knew was that her body was sore.

It made her smile and rub her eyes.

A good kind of sore.

She stretched her arms over her head and rolled over onto her side, expecting to touch a warm body but was surprised to feel her sheets cold and empty.

She sat up and pulled the covers away from her body.

Maybe he went to the bathroom.

Sitting up gingerly, she let her body relax as the aches and pains of rolling around in the sheets all night with Henry made her feel a little more stiff than usual. She looked down at herself, seeing all of the marks and remnants of everything else they did last night still coating her body.

She snorted to herself. She really needed a shower.

As she slid out of bed, Olivia carefully crept to her bathroom, noticing the door was wide open, and the lights were off. The sight of it made her frown as worry began to churn in her gut.

It’s okay … maybe he went to grab us coffee or … breakfast.

Trying to pull herself together, Olivia headed into the bathroom and shut the door behind her. She tried to breathe slowly, allowing herself to relax and not completely freak out. There was no sense in making this a big deal.

Henry would be back with either donuts or a breakfast sandwich in tow.

He had to be.

Olivia turned on the shower and stepped into the spray, sighing as the warm heat slowly worked the kinks out of her sore muscles. She took a long shower, scrubbing herself clean and just letting herself enjoy the unwinding heat.

She rolled her shoulders, feeling them pop. Henry had to be back by now.

When she turned off her shower and stepped out onto the bathmat, Olivia couldn’t help the overwhelming fear about what was waiting for her outside that door. Would she have a welcomed surprise or complete disappointment?

Olivia shook her head and grabbed her towel. The feeling in her gut told her the answer even before she stepped out of her bathroom.

As soon as she opened the door, the reigning silence that followed told her exactly what she’d been fearing … or rather, expecting.

Why was it that every time she started to like a guy, they just ditched? Was she really a “hit it and quit it” kind of girl?

She felt the anger boil inside her.

How stupid could she really be? Someone like Henry having any interest in her had been strange even from the very start. Of course, he was only in it for fucking around and then leaving her high and dry afterward. What did she expect?

It’s exactly how he conducted all of his business affairs. That had been the one point of contention that she’d always brought up about him during her podcasts. Time and time again, proving to her that his business practices were cut and dry with no feelings attached.
